Charmed Monday Minute, June 1

First: a confession. It's not Monday. I'm writing on Thursday May 31 and we'll send this out on Friday June 1. Monday is my book launch - a talk, q&a, and book signing by me, and a song premier by Broadway's Sherry Boone at Barnes & Noble, 66th & Broadway, New York City, 7 p.m. - and the opening of Joya's play (she's a director)-- so we're getting a head start on the Minute. Oh, for any of you with Sirius radio, I'll be on the Living Today Show on the Martha Stewart channel (#112) at 2 p.m. Eastern on Monday. Do tune in!

Things are heating up for Fat, Broke & Lonely No More. It is so exciting: everyone is taking to this book - radio people, including guys that you wouldn't think would be so enthusiastic about a book that's pink. It's really wonderful. And it's also challenging. You see, nothing big has happened for the book in the outside world that I can see. And yet, I'm being called on to practice what I (not preach---gosh, I hope I don't preach...) what I believe in and stay focused what I know can happen for this little book: that it reach millions of people and change their lives, so they can do their part to change the world. That's my vision. If you want to hold it with me, I would be very grateful.

Since I'll be touring, we're going to go to every-other-Monday for the Minute. So expect one June 18 (Paul McCartney's birthday for any trivia buffs), July 2, 16, and 30, and August 13 and 27. In the meantime, I'll try to keep up my blog on the road. Since I've been doing the Minute weekly, I've just copied it onto the blog page and haven't really blogged. If Joya can teach me how to get there and what keys to push, I'll check in that way.

With excitement, anticipation, and eagerness to see many of you this summer -

Victoria

A cool vodcast:

You'll like it. I'm really impressed with what these two young producer/hosts have done. You can see it either on their site, ifnotnow.net, or on blip, or on YouTube.

A terrific blog: A wonderful woman you all should know if you don't already is Cathryn Michon (The Grrl Genius Guide to Life). Her iVillage blog about Fat, Broke & Lonely No More truly warmed my heart. Here's the link.

My revamped website:

With the very good work of web designer Alex Lais (write to him at getmyownsite@yahoo.com), Joya and I have updated and spruced up victoriamoran.com. It's not 100% finished (we're going to have a splash page so you don't just go to the site and there it is; I think of a splash as like an entryway - good feng shui). Anyway, please visit and let us know what you think.

Ways you can help:

People keep writing to ask how they can help make Fat, Broke & Lonely No More a bestseller. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Here's what I can think of...

* Buy a book and one for a friend

* Write a glowing Amazon.com or BN.com review (or both)

* Carry the book with you places so people can see it

* Start a Fat, Broke & Lonely No More discussion group or suggest it to your book club

* Send an email or do a blog

* Get a Fat, Broke & Lonely No More tee-shirt or tank top (or sweatshirt, or bag...) at our CafePress store (be forewarned: the tanks run small - I had to go up a size) and wear it places.

* Request it from your local library (tell them it got a great review from Library Journal)

* Come to see me on tour (I'll be in Portland, Seattle, Corte Madeira, San Francisco, Palo Alto, Los Angeles, Kansas City, Columbia, MO, and Topeka, KS, between now and the end of June), and tell your friends in those cities that I'll be there (you can get details here on my site)

* Hold a vision of success for the book and keep it in your prayers.

I am overjoyed, abundantly honored, and again, as grateful as I can be for your help.

Your saving-time-on-email tips:

About a month ago, I wrote about e-mail overload and several of you sent your tips for keeping it under control. Here they are...

*Take the "Boulder Pledge," devised by Roger Ebert at the Conference on World Affairs at the University of Colorado:
"Under no circumstances will I ever purchase anything offered to me as the result of an unsolicited e-mail message. Nor will I forward chain letters, petitions, mass mailings, or virus warnings to large numbers of others. This is my contribution to the survival of the online community."

*Set up your email program to automatically filter messages into different folders based on the keywords that appear in the email. Or, designate all mail from certain important people (ie, family) to go into a special folder so you'll always see the most important messages.

*If a message has more than two "fwd" in the subject lines, toss it... This is will get rid of most of the chain letters.

Thanks for all the good tips!
